Our Mission
The Office of Military and Aerospace Support (OMAS) provides
a central clearinghouse for all defense retention, conversion,
and base reuse activities in the state. It serves as the primary
state liaison with the Department of Defense, and supports existing
and developing aerospace initiatives.
About the Office
The Office assists local communities throughout California
to make the best possible case to the Department of Defense
(DoD) for the retention of the state’s military facilities
in the 2005 round of base closures. OMAS also provides leadership
on statewide issues relating to military base retention and
the aerospace industry. Specific efforts include:
- Enhancing DoD operational and training effectiveness
throughout the state relative to encroachment, transportation,
environmental compliance, housing, frequency management
and air corridor space.
- Implementing both conversion and retention grant programs
in support of communities adjunct to bases.
- Serving as the primary clearinghouse for all California-DoD
issues
- Maximizing defense and aerospace industry contracts and
jobs of benefit to California.
- Facilitating DoD-civilian partnerships involving federal,
state, local and private sector members.
- Facilitating reduction of DoD infrastructure costs through
joint-service mission presence, base energy co-generation
projects, public-private ventures and privatization of base
services.
